Forty-two years ago today ...

There was a lot of construction going on.

Intelligencer photographer Don Renner visited three separate building sites. (Captions were included in the newspaper)

NEW SERVICE STATION — This Humble Oil Company service station, located at the Route 202 and 313 intersection in Buckingham Township, is expected to be completed within the next two months according to a Humble Oil Company spokesman. The building, located on about one half acre of land, will cost about $37,000. This cost does not include the equipment or land.

GYMNASIUM — Principal Designate James M. Gallagher confers with a member of the work crew in Central Bucks East's nearly completed gymnasium. The room is brightly lit by sky-lights and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Clemens — I couldn't find a caption for this one, but I know it well. I grew up shopping with my mom at Clemens Market on Route 202 in New Britain Borough. In 2006 Clemens became Giant Food Store and, though in reality it was just one enormous corporation buying out another, I felt like I'd lost part of my past. Is that weird? Nah. I'm just sentimental.

Haha, and look! I just found this great clipping of the store's grand opening, six months later. (Click for a larger view and to read the caption.)
