Flood of '55

I love this old photo from the 1955 Delaware River flood.

"An unidentified man stands in the ruins of his Upper Black Eddy store following the August 1955 flood caused by twin hurricanes Connie and Diane. The flood killed almost 100 people in the Delaware Valley and became the first billion-dollar hurricane disaster in U.S. history."

I recieved an email today from Karen Baron, owner of the Ferndale Inn in Nockamixon Township. She writes:

Hi Rayna,

Success! The unidentified man in that photo I mentioned, is named Karl (Carl) Shoe (Shue), Have no clue how to spell his name, but the person who remembers the store, said they used to call it the "shoe" store, also... said Karl was a little German man, and that the store had tables to eat at. It was located where the Bridgeton House bed and breakfast sits today. This is fun hunting for old stuff!

Thank you, Karen!
