Pennsylvania Packet, 1783

My friend Bill Getchell stopped by to show me this 18th century newspaper he picked up. According to Wikipedia, The Pennsylvania Packet, or the General Advertiser was an American newspaper founded in 1771 that, in 1784, became the first successful daily newspaper published in the United States.

Wikipedia also says, "To the extent it can honestly be traced past this point, the final successor of the Packet can be said to be The Philadelphia Inquirer."

I like that -- "To the extent it can honestly be traced." They're like, "Hey. We tried."

Anyway, I scanned the front page of the paper. Check out the national debt.
