The only son

In October 1967, 9-year-old Sandra Vaders of Warminster received this letter, sent all the way from Vietnam by her pen pal Joseph Tillo, an 18-year-old soldier from Bristol. “I only have 133 days left in Vietnam,” Tillo wrote. “It will be really nice to see the US again, and my loved ones. I have two sisters and no brothers. I am the only son.”

  1. I received and sent many letters like this one from
school students from Pennsbury and others.
I was in Vietnam during this time in 1967, I got home in Jan 1968, We actually did have some support
from the school kids, I was only 19 years old.
