Steeped in old-timey material

39 Years ago today, Intelligencer photographer Rob Lauriha was apparently feeling a little artistic. He snapped this shot of “Old Time Firemen” (that’s all the envelope says) in the reflective chrome of what, I can only assume, is an “Old Time Fire Engine.”

A recent e-mail made me wonder about an alleged bus line that once passed through Bucks County:
I seem to remember hearing of the Reading Bus Company having routes from Doylestown to Willow Grove, and then north on York Rd. to Lambertville N.J., Stockton N.J., and back to Doylestown. Ever see anything about this?

Your articles bring back tons of memories!

Keep up the GREAT work, and Be Well!

Thanks

Steve
Thank you, Steve, for your question. I looked through the archives, but couldn’t find anything at all on a Reading Bus Company. We had a lot of Reading Railroad files, and a Google search revealed that the bus company did exist, but I wonder if you may be thinking of the trolleys that used to run to Willow Grove Amusement Park.

  1. The photo by Rob Lauriha was taken at Old Timers Night held in June at the Doylestown Fire house on Shewell Ave. The spot light was on our 1953 Maxim ladder truck. The reflection look up Shewell Ave towards the Monument, on the left was Bean ,Mason & Ewer Building(now Honey Restuarant) and on right the County Library( now County offices
