Harris Pharmacy

Have you ever seen the gorgeous display of antique medical tools and ephemera at Harris Pharmacy in Doylestown? (Please excuse the crummy cellphone photos — I don't bring my camera with me each time I buy shampoo.)

I love that pharmacy. It's one of the few stores around that still has that sort of old-timey feel, without coming across as gimmicky or pretentious. Just sort of effortlessly eclectic, you know?

Waiting for a prescription anywhere else, I slouch down in my set, playing solitaire on my cell phone and trying to avoid eye contact with anyone buying laxatives. But at Harris, there's so much to look at! I'm free to roam happily, checking out the weird surgical supplies and pretending I live in a time when people died from things like "catarrh" and "carbuncle."

... Huh. "Catarrh and Carbuncle." Sort of sounds like a law firm, doesn't it?
