Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire


One hundred years ago today, 146 people, mostly young women, died terribly in one of the largest industrial "accidents" in U.S. history.

This isn't a Bucks County thing, but it's important to me. The article here (you can read the full text below if you click on the image) is from the Washington Post. It ran the day following the fire.

The building's south side, with windows marked X from which fifty women jumped.

The building's east side, with 40 bodies on the sidewalk. Two of the victims were found alive an hour after the photo was taken.

  1. This story has gotten a lot of coverage this year! I'm glad. Those women should not be forgotten! This horrible fire affected some change and that is good.
