Doylestown mystery photo

This mysterious photo has sat in a file, lonely and unlabeled, as long as I’ve worked as Intelligencer librarian. One person suggested that these could be inmates of the old Doylestown Prison, which stood on Pine St. and is now the Michener Museum. What do you think?

  1. I saved a copy of the picture and turned it into a negative. Under the black horses are the letters E A HADDY or E A HAPPY. It is hard to tell what they spell out. The letters on the truck near the horse's heads spell out WILK or WILKEN, Again, it is hard to decipher the letters.

  2. I think if they were inmates they'd all be wearing the same thing but who knows back then. Very interesting though.
