Quakertown's B-24

Charles Dick, president of the Quakertown Pilots Association, sent in some interesting photographs. He writes: “In the early years of the Quakertown Airport, they decided to buy an Army Surplus B-24. They knew they would never get the airplane out of the airport, because the runway was way too short. They also didn’t know if they could safely land it at the airport. So after flying it around until it was just out of fuel, they tried for a landing.

The nose wheel collapsed and the plane almost skidded onto what is now Milford Square Pike. They backed it up into the corner, raised the nose, repaired the damage, and there she sat until the late 1950s as a static display/attraction to promote the airport."
