Rice's in Solebury

Intelligencer photographer Rudy Millarg snapped this photo of Barbara Blanche standing in front of a sign at Rice’s Market in Solebury Township on Nov. 10, 1981. The picture accompanied a newspaper article that covered Barbara and Robert Blanche’s lease-purchase agreement on the property. The Blanches still own the market today.

Accoring to its website, Rice’s began as A.L. Rice’s farm auction around 1860 and has been in operation ever since.

  1. Oh the great times I had at Rice's in the late 70's/early 1980's! We lived less than a mile away so every Tuesday in the summer I would walk over through cornfields and peruse the antiques, books and Amish pies- I recall in the late 70's they were still auctioning livestock, and in the mid 80's there were buffalo in a field nearby. I eventually worked for a man from Colorado named Wild Bill who sold rock and roll memorabilia and records- he would pay me in vinyl and I still have several of those (Led Zeppelin) records. Some of my best childhood memories are from Rice's Market, such a wonderful place.
